iPad vs Rock

Nature tells us that you can kill two birds with one stone. Apple still hasn’t figured that shit out yet…

Steve Jobs Finally Gives us the iPad!

Author: Adam  //  Category: Gadgets, Internet

Steve Jobs unveils the iPad Enter probably the worst kept secret in consumer electronics history, Apple’s tablet, the iPad. Rumors have been circulating the web for some time now assuring us that Apple will be bringing a new device to the market. Today, those rumors were answered with the iPad.

Pricing for Apple’s new tablet is set at $499 with a data plan from AT&T. Currently, this gadget is situated at an uncomfortable price point, more expensive than a netbook, less expensive than a laptop or smartphone. The iPad will be able to run some iPhone applications, as well as being able to take advantage of an exclusive agreement with the New York Times to read the virtual paper right on the device.

Mr. Jobs stated that the iPad will be a completely new and better web browsing experience than on either a laptop or smartphone. Personally, I am drooling over this new device, but I don’t think I will be running out and purchasing one any time soon. This device won’t be able to do anything that either my laptop or cellphone can’t do, leading me to believe that Apple may have a hard time carving out a target market for the iPad.

There’s a new Sidekick in town!

Author: Adam  //  Category: Gadgets

Sharp and T-Mobile released the next member of the Sidekick family, the Sidekick 2008. This GSM gem looks like what you might expect a Sidekick look like. Same swivel-out screen… same basic layout, but crammed into a smaller, lighter body. It features a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, stereo bluetooth, expandable Micro SD slot, and a full qwerty keypad. And for all of you who feel the need to challenge the social norm, you can change the Sidekick’s face with your own custom cover…

Speaking of custom covers… I wonder how long it will be ’till Paris and Lindsey get their new sparkly Sidekicks… hmm….

The Sidekick’s battery is O.K. Sharp says it will give you 5hrs of talk time, or 4 days on standby.

If you don’t believe me when I say it looks like every other Sidekick ever, here you go…

Nokia’s N810 Internet Tablet is getting WiMax

Author: Adam  //  Category: Gadgets

Nokia had announced earlier this year that their newest internet device will be getting WiMax support sometime during 2008.

For anyone who doesn’t know, WiMax is a widespread internet service that will bring REAL internet to the mobile community. Unlike cellphone companies’ versions mobile web, WiMax is a fully functional service that is as close to a high-speed internet provider as possible. As of right now, WiMax will be available through Sprint’s Xohm service…

ALSO, for any of you who aren’t familiar with the Nokia N810, it is a mobile web device that is almost like having a laptop the size of a cellphone. It packs all the features that you want out of the internet into a very small gadget.

The N810 has the capability to browse web pages, stream videos, access RSS feeds, listen to music through Rhapsody, video chat with a built in webcam, use Skype, and more.

The only thing that it isn’t is a cellphone.

Check out Nokia’s promotion they put on YouTube…

To my knowledge, no date has been released as to when WiMax will be available nation-wide, but metropolitan coverage will start soon this year.

Is this the next ‘Big Thing’ in cell phones?

Author: Adam  //  Category: Gadgets

Sony Ericsson announced early February, their newest addition to their cellphone lineup, the Xperia X1. The X1 is set to rival Apple’s iPhone in features and, most likely, price.

The Xperia is Sony Ericsson’s first Smart Phone to use Windows Mobile software, instead of the Symbian OS, featured in their previous Smart Phones.

The X1 boasts a 3-inch high-resolution VGA display, and full QWERTY keyboard, encased in a metal-finish body.

The visual interface of Sony’s new phone is unique to the X1, using a system of Xperia panels to utilize the phone’s features. The Xperia panels give the user access to the Web, Multimedia, and Applications, and can be arranged to suit his/her preference.

Unlike Apple’s iPhone ,which is navigated via the touch screen alone, the Xperia can be operated in four different ways. The user is able to seamlessly switch between the touch screen capability, full QWERTY keyboard, an optical joystick, and 4-way key.

As far as accessing the internet is concerned, the Xperia has both Wi-Fi, and mobile web capabilities.

There has been no date set yet as for it’s release, but the Xperia will be part of AT&T’s new lineup mid 2008.
